“The Martian” Dominguez has been touted as the Yankees’ next star, showcasing power with six homers and a .747 OPS (107 OPS+) in 26 MLB games. However, his shaky outfield defense (-0.4 dWAR) and frequent mental mistakes could derail his AL ROTY chances, even with supposed spring training improvements.
I am much sweeter on another AL East prospect one spot down the board.
AL RotY Best Bet: Roman Anthony (+550)
For Anthony’s case, I’m hoping his talent wins out. The lefty hitter smacked 15 homers and posted a .983 OPS in Double-A last season. He’s a strong corner outfielder and MLB.com projects him as a future 30-homer guy. Anthony is currently the second-best prospect in baseball, per MLB.
But there’s risk. The ROTY formula is talent + playing time. Unless you hit like Aaron Judge, you won’t win ROTY on just 80 games played. Boston’s deep outfield, led by Jarren Duran in center and youngsters Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu in the corners, leaves Anthony without a clear path to playing time.
NL Rookie of the Year

Dylan Crews | +350 |
Matt Shaw | +400 |
Bubba Chandler | +850 |
Jordan Lawlar | +1100 |
Tirso Ornelas | +2000 |

Is Sasaki A Lock For NL ROTY?
Sasaki dominated NPB with a 30-15 record and 2.02 ERA before signing with Los Angeles, tying Shohei Ohtani’s 102.5 mph fastball record in 2023 and shining on the international stage. His splitter is already considered one of the best pitches in baseball, making him a legitimate contender for both NL Cy Young and ROTY. However, injuries have been a concern, and his health will ultimately determine whether he’s worth the +200 ROTY bet.
NL RotY Best Bet: A Value Shot
Beyond Sasaki or Dylan Crews, I’d take a look way down the board at Andrew Painter (+4000). A 2015 first-round pick in 2021, Painter looked like a future ace before Tommy John surgery sidelined him for two years, but his 2024 Arizona Fall League return proved he’s still elite, with a 100 mph fastball and a refined four-pitch mix.
Unfortunately, Philadelphia’s stacked rotation leaves little room for him. After Luis Gil became the first pitcher to win ROTY since 2018, perhaps the trend continues, and Painter’s dominance in Triple-A could fast-track him to the majors.

How To Read MLB Rookie Of The Year Odds
At your sportsbook of choice, the betting lines for the MLB Rookie of the Year odds will look something like this, for each of the AL and NL markets:
Roki Sasaki +350
Dylan Crews +400
This means that Roki Sasaki is the ROTY favorite since he has the lowest odds and the highest chance of winning the prop, according to oddsmakers. If you were to bet $100 on the Dodgers SP and he won, you would get a payout of $450 – your original $100 is returned along with your winnings of $350.
