KC Royals OVER 82.5 Wins (-110)
There are some gaps in the math cooked up within the AL Central. Someone needs to win this division, and I prefer the Royals OVER 82.5 instead of the Tigers (83.5) and Guardians (83.5 at -130).
KC had another savvy offseason, trading SP Brady Singer to the Reds for infielder Jonathan India. The Royals dealt from an extreme position of strength at starting pitcher and added some much-needed offense to complement Bobby Witt Jr., Sal Perez, and Vinne Pasquantino. The Royals own a better starting staff than the Guardians, plus Cleveland got worse at offense this offseason after trading Josh Naylor. The Tigers, meanwhile, are still a weak-hitting club, even with the addition of Gleyber Torres. KC also has the benefit of beating up on the ChiSox roughly 16 times next season.

Oakland Athletics OVER 70.5 Wins (-110)
Slowly but surely, Oakland is morphing into a competitor. Last year, the A’s won 69 games thanks to a very powerful batting order, highlighted by Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler. The pitching staff was awful, yet the club propelled itself to some key wins on offense alone. That strategy should play very well in the Athletics’ minor-league home in Sacramento for 2025. Balls sail at minor-league stadiums without the tall seats to block the wind. We saw the Jays hit tons of homers in 2021, when they played in Dunedin, Fla.
Secondly, the A’s made some big additions this winter. Oakland paid up for SP Luis Severino. After that, the club traded for 3B Gio Urshela and SP Jeffrey Springs. The A’s pitching should be better in 2025, as should this young, powerful offense.

Chicago Cubs UNDER 86.5 Wins (-110)
I’m not sure the addition of Kyle Tucker to a club that won 83 games last year justifies such a leap in the 2025 win total. Even with Tucker atop the order, Chicago is still deficient on offense. Michael Busch is powerful but strikes out a ton. Dansby Swanson maxes out around a low-.700 OPS, as does Nico Hoerner. Seiya Suzuki hits well but is often injured. Plus, who knows how healthy Tucker stays?
While the club has a respectable pitching staff, this is not a complete enough ball club for 87 wins. At this point in the winter, I’m taking the UNDER.
