The 2025 NFL draft happens on Thursday, April 24, and there hasn’t been much action ahead of the event. There hasn’t been a single trade between teams leading up to the draft, but that could change in the next two days.
The Tennessee Titans have the #1 pick, and it appears as though they’ll keep the pick for Miami quarterback Cam Ward. But the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants are next, and they’re at least listening to offers.
Many Teams Looking to Trade Up for Hunter, Carter, and Jeanty
It is being reported that the Browns and Giants, who are picking second and third, respectively, have been listening to offers for their high picks.
The Titans need a quarterback as Will Levis has underperformed badly after being picked with the 33rd pick in the 2023 Draft. It appears as though they’ll take Ward, who finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
The Browns and Giants could also use quarterbacks, although the Giants did sign 36-year-old Russell Wilson to a deal during the offseason. Cleveland won’t have DeShaun Watson for possibly all of this season due to a torn Achilles, and he’s been bad anyway. However, the Browns will find it almost impossible to trade his contract.
There are plenty of reasons for teams to move up in this year’s NFL Draft. Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter, Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty are all highly touted. You also can’t forget about the reigning Heisman winner, Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, who wants to continue to play both positions in the NFL.
Will This Draft Go Chalk, or Will There Be Surprises?
The 2025 NFL Draft odds for Thursday’s event are pretty certain that Ward will go first to Tennessee. But subsequently, anything could happen. You can go to five mock drafts and get five different orders. There are also a couple out there that don’t have Ward going #1.
All the teams in the top 10 have pressing needs, which is why they’re in their draft position. Many expect Hunter and Carter to go next after Ward, in some order, and would like to move up to select them. But the Browns and Giants would likely want a massive haul to give up their chance to pick these players.
There are no teams named in this report, which opens up the possibilities. But whoever they are, the teams will have to make the Browns and Giants give up their high picks.
