Cooper Flagg NBA Draft Betting Odds

Duke’s Cooper Flagg has long been projected to be the crown jewel and No. 1 overall pick of this summer’s 2025 NBA draft class, with a slew of the Association’s bottom dwellers praying that the ping-pong balls will drop in their favor in order to select the highly-touted prospect.

Bettors can currently wager on which team they believe will be the one to ultimately select Flagg, with the assumption being that he’ll be taken first as opposed to someone like Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, or VJ Edgecombe.

Which franchise is currently favored to have the 18-year-old sensation fall in their lap as one of the most coveted draft prizes in recent memory?

Cooper Flagg Betting Favorite: Washington Wizards

The lowly Washington Wizards currently have the shortest odds to draft Flagg and deservedly so. The team possesses what’s far and away the worst win-loss record in basketball, sitting 2.5 games back of the field with just six victories to their name as of January 18, 2025.

What’s working against them, though, is that no team that’s finished with the worst record has actually landed the No. 1 pick since 2018 when the 21-61 Phoenix Suns did so and acquired Deandre Ayton. The Atlanta Hawks just took Frenchman Zaccharie Risacher first overall in 2024 despite qualifying for the play-in tournament and only having a three percent chance of winning the lottery.

Washington hasn’t picked first since 2010 when it took former franchise cornerstone John Wall, which was nine years after selecting notorious bust Kwame Brown straight out of high school. Wizards faithful can only hope that Flagg would turn out more like the former and not at all like the latter should he arrive in the nation’s capital.

Why Will Cooper Flagg Be Drafted First Overall?

The degree of hype surrounding Flagg even before he stepped on the hardwood for Duke was immense, but despite the level of competition in the ACC having yet to truly challenge him as of yet, the 6-foot-9 forward has continuously demonstrated why he’s viewed as a generational, once-in-a-lifetime talent who can be an instant game-changer for any organization he joins.

Flagg currently leads Duke in all major statistical categories, averaging 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 rejections per contest. His two-way intangibles place him on such a high pedestal, as his athleticism and defensive chops can impact games in which his still developing shot mechanics aren’t cooperating.

His recent performance versus Notre Dame on Jan. 11 further put the world on notice, with Flagg registering 42 points, six boards, and seven dimes while shooting 11-of-14 from the field and missing just one of his 17 free-throw attempts across 36 minutes of action. His basketball IQ was on full display, taking defenders off the dribble, making precise passes to open shooters, and taking smart shots in the flow of the game en route to his ACC freshman record for scoring.

Flagg may not provide a team an instant turnaround quite like LeBron James did with the Cleveland Cavaliers, or a 7-foot-4 build with playmaking chops like Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio, but what he can offer out of the gate is hope for brighter days ahead with his superstar potential.
