The NFL Draft goes off on Thursday night, and there is no player with a wider range of where he could be selected than Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The 23-year-old had two great seasons for the Buffaloes, who were 4-7 in his first year but improved to 9-4 in his second year.
However, Sanders has gotten some flak in the media, and it was revealed that one team interview didn’t go well. An assistant coach has claimed the QB had the worst showing he’s ever seen!
It was reported via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network that one team, who remains anonymous, didn’t have positive thoughts about their interview with Sanders.
The article also claims that this could be a smokescreen, throwing other teams off Sanders, so he could fall to the team in question. However, that criticism has been met with some pushback by media members.
Kyle Brandt of “Good Morning Football” (also on the NFL Network) ripped the anonymous assistant coach and claimed that Sanders is loved by his teammates. Brandt was backed up by Michael Irvin, a former analyst on the NFL Network.
It should be said that Irvin probably knows Sanders well, having played with his father, Deion, from 1995 to 1999 in Dallas and won a Super Bowl. Irvin and Deion Sanders also worked together for years at the NFL Network.
Still, Irvin is one of the greatest receivers of all time and knows what it takes to make it in the NFL.
Which Team Could Use Shedeur Sanders?
You can find NFL Draft odds for where Sanders will land. We have the QB going third to the New York Giants in our 2025 NFL mock draft, which would be a good landing spot for him.
The Giants signed Russell Wilson in the offseason, but he is 36 years old, so they need to have an eye on the future. There are also plenty of teams that could use a young quarterback to mold. You could easily say that eight of the top ten teams in the NFL Draft could use a signal-caller, outside of New England (Drake Maye) and Jacksonville (Trevor Lawrence).
Sanders could also fall out of the top ten, but with the number of teams that should pick a quarterback, taking the young signal-caller in that range is very promising. Sanders isn’t as athletic as his father, also a good baseball player. However, he’s accurate if you give him time, and he has steadily improved as a quarterback throughout his college career.
Sanders does have to learn better pocket awareness, but he will take a hit if it means taking a play. A lot of the issues with Sanders are normal with young quarterbacks when they get into the NFL.
It’s going to be very fascinating to see where Sanders goes on Thursday night. His draft selection should be an NFL draft contest in itself!
