Wheeler Hasn’t Allowed A Hit Yet
It’s April 23, and I’m back with two sharp NRFI picks for today’s MLB slate.
There are plenty of contests to choose from, but I’m circling the Phillies-Mets and Rockies-Royals games.
NRFI Pick Today: Phillies vs. Mets (-125 at BetMGM)
Phillies vs Mets Odds – Game Time: 1:10 p.m. ET
The NL East rivalry features Zack Wheeler and David Peterson, both thriving in the early innings. Wheeler boasts a perfect first-inning record this season, holding batters hitless (0-for-15) in five starts. The Mets have struggled to produce in the first inning, too. Juan Soto is cold, and the offense is batting just .242. Wheeler’s 5-0 NRFI record should limit any chances in the opening frame.
Peterson has been sharp too, at 3-1 NRFI, and has done a respectable job against Phillies stars, like Kyle Schwarber, who is just 2-for-19 lifetime vs Peterson. This matchup is primed for a scoreless opening frame.
NRFI Pick Today: Rockies vs. Royals (-115 at FanDuel)
Rockies vs Royals Odds – Game Time: 7:40 p.m. ET
German Marquez and Michael Lorenzen headline this interleague battle. Marquez has excelled in the first inning, consistently keeping opponents off the board despite his team’s struggles. He carries a 3-1 NRFI record, and active Royals hitters own just a .527 OPS against him. Lorenzen has been equally effective, allowing no first-inning runs over four innings while limiting hitters to a .200 average.
The Rockies are batting below .200 as a team, which puts Lorenzen in a good spot to add to his 4-0 NRFI record. With two reliable arms and sluggish offenses, this matchup is a strong case for an NRFI.
